Tips for Decorating Your Condo

Condo living can be quite liberating if you are interested in downsizing and not having to deal with things such as cutting your grass or fixing things when they break.  Whether you rent or purchase a Condo of your own, Condo life is quite different from owning your own home.  There is a lot less upkeep when you live in a Condo vs living in a house but that doesn’t mean that you want to skimp on décor.  Below you will find a few tips for decorating your Condo that will have you loving your little place in no time.

  1. One easy way to decorate your Condo that you may want to try is to add a few large mirrors to the walls.  Hanging large mirrors in a small space will make the small space look larger.  Many times, Condos can be tiny and have a lot of angles and awkward looking areas that can make a small space appear even smaller.   Mirrors can help to alleviate all of this.
  2. Another tip for decorating your Condo is to paint the walls a nice white. You can find many different shades of white and can likely find one that will appeal to you.   White paint will brighten up the rooms in your Condo and make the pallet very neutral and easy therefore to decorate.
  3. Yet another tip for decorating your Condo is to add color with large art wall décor. When you place a large painting on a wall in a small room it keeps the eye from looking towards the small space and brings the eye up to the artwork which helps the area to appear larger.   Not to mention it can add a great deal of beauty.
  4. If your Condo is very small a good way to decorate and make the area work better for you is to separate spaces with room separators or curtains.  This works well for Condos that are completely open and don’t have a lot of walls in them.
  5. Adding some shelves to the walls in your Condo on which to sit your knick knacks is a great way to make the space your own and to make it look like you and your personality.

These are just a few ideas and tips for decorating your Condo that you may want to put into practice.  There are many other ways in which you can create your perfect living environment with décor.

A Few Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Condo

If owning your own home isn’t on your agenda and you would rather purchase a condo or townhome to make things a bit easier on yourself, you are not alone.  There are several things however that you should consider and think about before purchasing a condo and a few of those things are listed below.

  1. One thing to consider when purchasing a condo  is who the manager is.  If you have a manager that is easy to deal with then you shouldn’t have any issues, but if you have a manager that doesn’t see eye to eye with you on things you may find yourself wishing you never would have purchased a condo.
  2. There are fees associated with owning a condo. You should definitely check into the fees associated with your particular condo before purchasing it.  These fees can range anywhere from $200 to $400 per month or year depending on how upscale the condo is you want to purchase.
  3. Looking at the condo financial statements is a great way to see if you really want to purchase a condo or not. For example if the condos financial statements do not include paying for repairs on a broken street light, you may end up seeing the repair costs tagged on to your bill.  Taking these types of things into consideration could sway your decision one way or the other regarding purchasing.  If you find that repairs on such things are not included in a particular condos financial statements you may want to search for a condo that does cover them.
  4. Knowing the rules of condo living can make or break your decision of purchasing as well. Some condos don’t allow holiday decorations while others just tell you where to park.  It’s up to you to decide what is most important to you and what rules simply do not matter that much, however knowing the rules is imperative.
  5. Checking out the condos liability insurance to make sure there are no pending lawsuits against it is also a good idea.

These things to consider before purchasing a condo are just the tip of the ice berg.  Do your due diligence, ask questions and find out all there is to know about condo living  before sinking your money into a one you are not happy with. If you do all of this and you are satisfied, you will likely enjoy condo living and all it has to offer.

Things to Consider When Buying a Condo

September 4th, 2015 by tisner

Buying a condo can be a good experience if you know what you are getting into. If you enjoy the easy life but you still want to own your own home, buying a condo may be just the thing for you! Today, we will look into a few things you may want to consider when buying a condo.

condo

  • Get to know your HOA if there is one. Find out what you can and cannot do in and around your new condo. Many people take getting to know about their Homeowner’s Association for granted until it is too late and they run into a problem.
  • Look into the bylaws of the condo you are thinking about purchasing. You can find out about rules regarding pets, parking, maximum occupant guidelines as well as finding out about things you can and cannot change in the unit if you decide you would rather rent for a while.
  • Have the building inspected to see if there will be any need for repairs before you purchase it. This will help you in the long run avoid spending needlessly on things that could have already been fixed before you move in to your new condo.
  • Find out what your voting rights might be as a condo owner. You can check this by again looking into the HOA and those that govern it.
  • Check into the finances of the condo to see that there are reserves for building maintenance that may come into play in the future.
  • Go door to door and get to know your potential neighbors. You will be living in close proximity to your neighbors if you do choose condo life, so spend a little bit if extra time getting to know those around you.

Condo life can be great if you are an empty nester or if you are single or an older individual looking for a more relaxed lifestyle than typical home ownership offers you. The last thing you want to be doing in your later years is worrying about keeping up a house and all that it entails. Start looking into condo life today by doing a bit of research online for condos in your area for sale or rent. There are pros and cons to owning your own condo so be sure to do your research and figure out if living in a condo works for your lifestyle. You may find that you have found the gold at the end of the rainbow by purchasing your own condo.
