365 Orlando: 91. Visit Fort Christmas Historical Park

July 8th, 2010 by tisner

Take in a bit of Orlando history this summer at Fort Christmas Historical Park. This park is home to seven historically restored homes that preserve the ‘Cracker’ architecture of East Orange County. You will be taken through history starting in the 1870’s up to the 1930’s of pioneer life in Florida. Things highlighted on your visit are homesteading, cattle, citrus, hunting, fishing and trapping. There are also artifacts of Seminole weapons, clothing, pioneer tools and other household items. The homes show home the people of this era lived on a daily basis. You will be interested to know that the fort was named because the soldiers arrived on December 25, 1837 to begin building the fort. The fort was built during the Second Seminole Indian War. You can even take home replicas of pioneer life which are available in the gift shop.

Come out and walk thru part of Orlando’s history in this full size exhibit.
